International Geocaching Day

On a chilly but beautiful Saturday afternoon at Ansan Lake Park, our CA took part in our International Geocaching Day. At 1pm, our students began the hunt for 8 caches hidden throughout the park.

Each cache contained a small gift from NZ and a partial picture of an international cultural monument. After the each cache was discovered, the teams had to figure out which monument was depicted in order to recieve the GPS coordinates for the next cache.

While our CA team were seaching for the stashes, we were also receiving updates on our Google + community from our Kiwi students. They too were taking part in a series of tasks, such as learning how to say "hello" in Korean or drawing the Korean flag.

After all eight caches were found, each member of our CA team was rewarded with a gift bag containing cultural items and snacks from New Zealand, sent by the students and teachers that have been participating in our programme. The Kiwi students were also sucessful and were able to open their culture caches too. With Koreans and New Zealanders interacting and our honorary Russian AIYP CA Olga helping out, it really was a multicultural day!

Content Creation 2

After a long break due to midterms, the CA team met, once again, at Ansan Unversity for their second Content Creation session.

The majority of the students had already finished and uploaded their introduction videos to our Google + community page and had begun shooting video content for their team projects. The students were able to begin editing some of the footage and had time for further idea development discussion.

This evening our Ambassadors had their first Content Creation meeting. Here they were able to continue with their gift box preparation and also begin brainstorming for the UCC (User Created Content) section of our programme.

Lots of ideas for their individual introduction and team videos were developed and some teams began work on storyboards for their projects.

Intro to Geocaching!

Today our Cultural Ambassadors participated in the Intro to Geocaching day. The weather was great and the students had a good time hunting for caches around Hanyang University, in preparation for our International Geocaching event in October.

As it was the first time for the students to participate in a geocaching event, they eagerly progressed from the first cache at the university's main gate, uncovering a total of 7 throught the event. Alice and Eric, in particular, discovered a knack for finding the hidden stashes.

Gift/ Cache Preparation Event

Today the Cultural Ambassadors met at Ansan University to discuss ideas for our gifts/ caches to send to the NZ students participating in our programme. These caches are intended to give the Kiwi students an exciting introduction to Korean culture.

The students drew inspiration from a selection of pre-purchased items, with each team coming up with fantastic ways to uniquely customise their gift boxes.

The Ansan International Youth Program has officially begun!

15 enthusiastic and motivated students from around Ansan took part in Saturday's AIYP Orientation Day. It was a long day but they the were rewarded with a delicious cultural experience at Kantipur in Wongok-dong. It was the first time to eat Indian/ Nepalese food for many of the students! We're looking forward to seeing what other multicultural experiences the students will have over the next 3 months!
